Your candidness and willingness to speak up, speak out and tell your truth has been consistently inspirational. Having also been trolled by the people you mention in Mass., I know how horrible it can feel. I hope you can take comfort from the many who have your back and are with you on your journey through all its difficult unfoldings, recognizing the importance of compassion and holding you in the light.
My son took his life in 2021. His ‘illness’ was depression, though I do wonder now if it was bi-polar 2. Like you I write to stand in fellowship with other parents who are going through complex grief after the tragic loss of their child. Guilt abounds, if we let it. I am so sorry your amazing work in this field has been misunderstood and misused. Theirs is the shame to carry.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I also wrote about my son's death in HuffPo and the New York Post lifted it. I would imagine that for every troll, there were hundreds of people who benefited from reading your story.
Today's media, I'm sorry to say, is fully commercial -- sincerity is reviled, innocence is mocked, tentative understandings are ridiculed because that way, monetization lies. I'm old-school media, and met you and your kids as volunteers in the Dominican Republic, and am shocked and ashamed at the ways in which they, and you, and anyone, can become fodder for "making it." I applaud your honesty and fearlessness...and fear, no, things won't get better for a long time yet....
Oh. My. God. For one thing, Daily Mail is a trolling tabloid and I am so, so sorry they did this to you. You know you can sue them. I’m excited for you that HuffPost published your essay! As for the one that got published without notifying you—have you reached out to them? Were you supposed to get paid for it? Anyway, congratulations, you are much stronger than I would be in this situation (I would have taken ALL them trolls to task, and in the process probably making things worse). You reacted the right way. The only way to shut up bullies is to ignore them. I love you.

People are just assholes sometimes. ❤️🩹

What Dina said! Welcome to the “wounded warriors” clan. You didn’t choose this membership, but hopefully others benefit from your warrior courage!
